June has traditionally been the perfect month for weddings. There are several reasons for this. June is named for the Roman goddess Juno, the goddess of marriage and childbirth. Getting married during her month was believed to bring couples lifelong prosperity and
happiness. Then there is the beautiful weather of June — not too hot yet, but generally warm enough for outside weddings. Then there is the summer break from school, allowing for easier vacation traveling for visiting guests.
To honor this tradition, the Lee Moberly Museum displayed wedding photos during its opening in June. Visitors enjoyed the changing fashions over the years and the evolution from
black and white to color photography. Thank you to brides and grooms who shared their special memories for the display, and the visitors who came by to enjoy them.
