KIDS AND CANNING: News from the Historical Society

The Lee Moberly Museum has been a very busy place over the last month! Since the last edition of the Middleton Gazette, the Museum has been host to a class reunion for the Class of 1965, and all third grade classes from Mill Creek, Purple Sage, and Heights Elementaries. With class reunion attendees, kids from third grades, teachers, and parent chaperones, we’ve had about 400 people walk through out doors! It is so much fun to share the Museum and hear the stories of former Middleton days, or the questions from curious young students. Thank you to parent and grandparent volunteers and Historical Society volunteers who made these field trips possible.

A great question came from one of the Third Graders: What is the oldest item in the Museum? (No, it isn’t me!) Searching around after they left, the embossers got my vote. If you are asking yourself, “What is an embosser?” I encourage you to visit the Museum to find out.

In October we also hosted community home canning efforts. The items looked delicious, and were so colorful. Thank you to those who brought in items to share on October 4. Board members enhanced the canning theme with tools used for canning and some old canning recipe books.
